Ricky Martin to develop TV series

IANS

New York, July 31: Fans of singer Ricky Martin, currently appearing on Broadway in a revival of the musical "Evita", may soon be able to see him from the comfort of their living rooms, as the Puerto Rican star has signed on with NBC's Universal Television.

"Universal Television has signed a talent holding deal with multi-platinum recording artist Ricky Martin to develop and star in his first network television series and specials," the company said Monday in a press release.

"Ricky is an iconic superstar who is as talented as he is popular," Universal Executive Vice President Bela Bajaria said.

"Whether he's performing before sold-out concert crowds, or starring on Broadway, where he is currently playing to SRO in 'Evita', Ricky connects with his audience in a very palpable way - and we are thrilled that he will be adding TV star to his incredible resume," the NBC Universal VP said.

The 40-year-old Martin was a guest star on the Fox TV hit comedy "Glee" earlier this year.

The singer has sold 60 million albums worldwide.
